The recent haze situation across Southeast Asia has renewed concerns about air quality and its impact on public health. For many, stepping outdoors means facing discomfort and exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5), highlighting the importance of maintaining a healthier indoor environment.
However, haze is more than an air quality concern. It reflects the wider relationship between environmental conditions, public health and economic activity. Beyond its immediate effects on people, haze can disrupt daily operations, affect productivity and place additional pressure on businesses and communities. Its underlying causes, including land and forest fires associated with certain land-clearing practices, also contribute to habitat destruction, biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions.
Addressing these challenges requires collective action from governments, communities and businesses. While businesses may not be able to address the root causes of haze alone, they can take meaningful steps to manage environmental risks, protect employee well-being and reduce their environmental footprint through more responsible operating practices.
FOZ One’s Commitment to Sustainability
At FOZ One, we believe sustainability should go beyond commitments on paper. It should be reflected in the way we design our workplace, manage resources and operate our business.
Our Green Building Index (GBI) certification reflects our commitment to sustainable building practices and operational efficiency. Through practical initiatives in indoor environmental management, humidity control and renewable energy, we aim to create a better working environment for our people while using resources more responsibly.
- Supporting Better Indoor Air Quality
Maintaining a healthy indoor environment is particularly important during periods of poor outdoor air quality. Our ventilation systems are designed to maintain positive indoor air pressure, helping reduce the infiltration of outdoor air through gaps in the building envelope.
Together with appropriate ventilation management and air filtration measures, where installed, this forms part of our approach to managing indoor air quality and supporting a healthier, more comfortable working environment for our employees.
By considering indoor environmental conditions as part of our building management practices, we aim to support employee well-being while maintaining a productive workplace.
- Balancing Indoor Comfort with Energy Efficiency
Indoor environmental quality also involves effective humidity management. Excessive humidity can affect indoor comfort and contribute to moisture-related concerns, making appropriate humidity management an important part of building operations.
Our building facilities are designed to maintain indoor relative humidity below 70%, supporting a comfortable indoor environment while emphasising efficient facility management and responsible energy use.
By integrating humidity management into our building operations, we aim to balance employee comfort with operational efficiency and minimise unnecessary energy consumption.
- Harnessing Solar Energy
Renewable energy is another important part of our sustainability efforts. FOZ One harnesses solar energy through rooftop solar panels, helping reduce our reliance on grid electricity and the associated operational carbon emissions.
In 2025, our solar panels generated approximately 1.12 GWh of renewable electricity, accounting for around 8% of our total electricity consumption.
This contribution demonstrates how renewable energy can be incorporated into everyday business operations. By continuing to explore opportunities to expand our solar capacity, we aim to increase our use of renewable energy, reduce our environmental impact and make further progress towards our long-term sustainability goals.
Looking Ahead: Building a More Sustainable Future
The recent haze situation serves as a reminder that environmental challenges can have far-reaching consequences for public health, ecosystems and economic activity. While addressing the underlying causes of haze requires collective and regional action, businesses also have a responsibility to manage their environmental impacts and consider the well-being of their people.
At FOZ One, we believe sustainability begins with practical action. From managing indoor environmental conditions and improving resource efficiency to incorporating renewable energy into our operations, we remain committed to making responsible choices and continuously improving our business practices.
For us, sustainability is not a single initiative, but an ongoing commitment to operating more responsibly and creating long-term value.
Beyond the haze, we remain focused on building a more sustainable future for our people, our business, society and the wider environment.
